Waste management

The Staircampus works with Renewi to ensure efficient waste separation. This involves sorting all the waste generated by Upstairs, including plastic, wood, synthetic materials, glass, paper, general waste and organic waste. In 2024, we managed to recycle 98% of our waste, which resulted in us avoiding 443 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions. In addition, separating our waste has led to an 11% increase in the conservation of raw materials.

Lifetime warranty

At Upstairs Staircase Renovation, we offer a lifetime guarantee on our staircase renovation work. Thanks to our use of durable materials, expert craftsmanship and a flawless finish, an Upstairs staircase is guaranteed to give you a lifetime of enjoyment. Each design is thoroughly tested before it is launched on the market, enabling us to guarantee its quality.

Innovation and research

Innovation and research

At our StairLab, Upstairs’ research centre, we are constantly working on new applications and sustainable innovations. We test and develop our products to ensure they are durable and environmentally friendly. Our focus is on creating sustainable staircases without compromising on quality or style.

Social responsibility: AVL Foundation

In addition to our environmental initiatives, we also contribute to society. Every year, we support the AVL Foundation, a leading cancer institute, through donations. Our aim is to make a positive impact on the lives of people battling cancer.

Innovation with an eye to the future: Kirihout in staircase renovation

At Upstairs, we have been actively seeking more sustainable materials for our staircase renovations for the past ten years. One of the most promising discoveries is the kiriboom – the fastest-growing tree in the world. This tree reaches a height of around 10 metres within six years and can be harvested up to seven times from a single planting. What’s more, it absorbs up to ten times more CO₂ than other trees.

Following earlier tests involving elephant grass and roadside grass, among other materials, we have now made significant progress in the development of stair treads made from kiri wood. The first prototypes have been successfully produced at our own Research & Development Centre on the StairCampus. This is a promising step towards an even more sustainable product.

Sustainable materials

Our staircase renovation products are not only stylish and of the highest quality, but have also been designed with sustainability in mind. The finishes in the World Collection, for example, are made from FSC-certified wood sourced from responsibly managed forests.

For the Stoer Chique collection, we use leather from Indian water buffalo: a natural product that gives every staircase a unique, weathered character. We also subject all our products to extensive testing at our Research & Development Centre on the StairCampus, so that we can guarantee not only sustainable sourcing but also a long lifespan and a perfect finish. This means that when you choose Upstairs, you’re always choosing a staircase that will last for generations.

Sustainable commercial premises

Our premises are fully all-electric and utilise heat pumps and 861 solar panels, making them completely self-sufficient in terms of energy consumption. The premises are equipped with the latest innovations in design and sustainability. LED lighting throughout the premises ensures energy efficiency, whilst modern ventilation systems contribute to a healthy working environment.
