- Remove the old coating
Remove the old stair covering using a filling knife, scraper or paint stripper. Then sand the stairs thoroughly to create a smooth surface. - Remove all dust from the
stairs Remove all sanding residue with a vacuum cleaner and a slightly damp cloth. A clean surface is crucial for a smooth finish - Choose your finish
Are you going to paint or varnish? Start with a primer, sand lightly and finish with 2 to 3 coats of paint or varnish. Tip: skip every other step so that the stairs remain accessible whilst you’re painting. - Allow to dry and check
