1. Anti-slip stair covering

Wooden or plastic steps can become slippery, especially after cleaning. You should therefore choose non-slip stair treads to prevent slipping.

2. Good lighting

A safe staircase is also a well-lit staircase. With LED lighting or lights fitted with motion sensors, you won’t have to fumble around in the dark at night looking for a light switch.

3. Closed staircase

Open staircases are less suitable when there are children in the house: there is a risk that they might slip through the gaps between the steps. Safety gates allow you to securely block off the staircase.

4. Stair gate

Make sure children do not go up or down the stairs on their own. Install a stair gate at both the top and bottom of the stairs for added safety.

5. Clear rules

Explain to your children that the stairs are not a place to play. Clear rules remain the best way to prevent accidents.
