Video: How does a staircase renovation work?

In this video, you can see how we transform your staircase from old to new in just one day using our stair tread covers.

Our craftsmen work with precision and are specially trained in the unique Upstairs method. Thanks to their experience and our in-house manufactured materials, we guarantee top quality. The result: a perfectly finished staircase that will last a lifetime.

What does the stair tread for your staircase renovation consist of?

Our replacement steps are produced in-house. The great advantage of this is that we can continuously control the quality of our overlay steps. The picture shows how the covering step is composed:
Dwarsdoorsnede

A – Existing stair tread onto which the stair tread cover is fitted.
B – Seamlessly fitted nosing (front edge), with no visible seams or gaps.
C – Unique Upstairs backing with logo as a mark of authenticity.
D – HDF core made from wood fibres compressed under high pressure.
E – Decorative layer from the World Collection, finished with the scratch- and wear-resistant Upstairs Original Top Layer.
F – Bottom rail for a tight fit against the riser.
G – Riser: the vertical section between the steps (not present on an open staircase).

Wear resistance of the cover tread

Not only the treads, but also the risers and stringers are made from high-quality Upstairs Original. As we manufacture our stair tread covers entirely in-house, we can maintain consistent quality control. This ensures you receive the finest materials and a staircase that will last a lifetime.

Taber test
During the production process, we carry out various quality checks, including the Taber test. This rotating abrasion tester measures the abrasion resistance of materials, including our Upstairs Original Top Layer.

The wear resistance of laminate flooring is expressed as an AC rating:

  • AC4 – suitable for moderate domestic use

  • AC5 – suitable for heavy-duty use (offices or shops)

  • AC6 – suitable for very heavy-duty use (schools, high-traffic areas)

The Taber test shows that our Upstairs Original Top Layer has an AC5 rating. This means it can withstand heavy foot traffic and is designed to provide years of trouble-free use. A staircase for life.
