Advantages of a closed staircase

Closed staircases have a number of advantages. Here are the three most important ones:

  • Safety:
Risers between the steps give older people, children and people with disabilities a greater sense of security.
  • Better thermal and acoustic insulation
With a closed staircase, heat is retained better within the room and noise pollution is significantly reduced.
  • Making the most of
the space With a closed staircase, you can also make use of the space underneath the stairs (for example, for a shoe cupboard, pantry or a cosy reading nook).

Can my enclosed staircase be renovated?

Absolutely! Thanks to our unique step-by-step system, virtually any staircase is suitable for renovation. When renovating a closed staircase, our experts always replace both the steps and the risers.

When it comes to the stair treads, you can choose from a wide variety of colours and designs to suit any interior. You can opt for the same colour for the risers, but do take a look at our other options for the risers as well. We’d be happy to help you decide, so that you end up with a staircase that blends seamlessly into your interior.

Frequently asked questions

That depends entirely on your personal preferences. Thanks to our stair tread covers, you can choose the style and colour yourself. The great thing about a closed staircase is that you can choose a colour for both the treads and the risers. You can opt for the same colour, or choose a different colour for the risers to create a bit more contrast. Feel free to browse our collection to see the options available.

Your closed staircase will be easy to maintain, non-slip, and resistant to scratches and wear. What’s more, a staircase renovation is usually installed within a single day (barring any exceptions). We work without any chiselling or demolition; in the morning you’ll walk down your old staircase, and by evening you’ll be walking up your new one.

This is possible, but we advise against it for reasons relating to the structure and safety of the staircase. For this reason, we do not carry out this work.

This applies to open staircases, but for closed staircases, a staircase renovation by Upstairs always includes the risers.

The consultation is the first step towards your new staircase. Our consultant will visit your home and take plenty of time (around 1.5 hours) to show you all the options. Together, we’ll look at which style, materials and details suit your interior and preferences. This way, you’ll know exactly what’s possible and what best suits your situation. It’s best if both you and your partner are present during the consultation, so that you can choose the right colours and materials together.

The cost of a staircase renovation varies from customer to customer, depending on individual requirements, personal circumstances and the condition of the existing staircase. Unfortunately, it is not possible to give a specific answer to the question ‘How much does a staircase renovation cost?’, but we can provide a starting price for each type of staircase.

Would you like to know how much an Upstairs staircase renovation would cost for your staircase? If so, please get in touch with us. We offer a service where an advisor will visit you to measure your staircase and provide you with advice. Once our advisor has measured your staircase, they will calculate exactly how much your new dream staircase will cost, down to the last penny. You then decide how to proceed.

Yes, certainly, but only in conjunction with the renovation of a closed staircase. At Upstairs, staircase lighting is always neatly installed during the renovation process, so that no electrical wires are visible. It is not possible to install staircase lighting once the renovation has already been completed.
