Open Trap

Advantages of an open staircase

Open staircases have a number of advantages. Here are the main ones:

  • Spatial effect
An open staircase creates a sense of space, as there are no risers between the steps and you can see right through it. This immediately makes the room appear larger and brighter.
  • Blending with your interior
An open staircase is often situated in the living room and, with a renovation, can blend seamlessly with your interior style. This makes your staircase a beautiful feature of your home.
  • Optimal light
An open staircase allows more light through, creating a beautiful, natural light in the room.

Covering an open staircase; how does it work?

We renovate staircases using our stair tread covers, which we fit over your existing steps. Our skilled tradespeople measure the steps on site, then cut them to size and secure them using our special foam adhesive, which is both strong and sound-absorbing. With this special system, we can usually renovate your open staircase in just one day.

When renovating an open staircase, we have a number of options:

  • Single-sided covering for open staircases: only the top of the step is covered with our stair tread covers.
  • Covering an open staircase on both sides: the step is covered all the way round.

Closing off your open staircase

Do you have an open staircase that you’d like to enclose? That’s no problem at all; it’s certainly an option if you’re looking to renovate your open staircase. How does enclosing an open staircase work, and what options are available for renovating your staircase afterwards? At Upstairs, you’re in good hands either way, because as well as enclosing your open staircase, you can also renovate your enclosed staircase with new stair cladding that best suits your interior.

Advantages of a closed staircase

  • less heat loss
  • additional safety
  • better acoustics
  • more storage

Would you like to know how much an Upstairs staircase renovation would cost for your open staircase? If so, please get in touch with us. We offer a service where an advisor will visit you to measure the staircase and provide you with advice. Once our advisor has measured your staircase, they will calculate exactly how much your new dream staircase will cost. You then decide how to proceed.

No, that’s not possible.

Absolutely! When we close off your open staircase, we first install MDF panels between the steps. We then cover both the risers and the treads with your chosen finish. Our advisor would be happy to discuss the options for a staircase renovation with you and your partner, so that you can choose the finish that best suits your interior and your personal preferences.

With an open staircase, there are several options:

Single-sided covering: the top of the steps is covered with our stair tread covers.
Double-sided covering: your steps are covered all around with our stair tread covers.
Closing off your open staircase: by installing risers, we ‘close off’ your open staircase.
